KSNEAN이 2024년 봄학기를 맞이하며 11명의 열정 넘치는 신규 편집부 멤버를 영입하게 되었다. 이전까지 뉴잉글랜드 한국학교 학생들은 졸업 후 본격적으로 보조교사 활동을 시작하면서 학교 신문 KSNEAN에서도 기자로 활동했었다. 하지만 올해 처음으로 백두반 학생들이 봄학기 시작과 함께 KSNEAN 편집부에 영입되었다. 지난 3월 2일, 총괄 고문인 박현아 선생님과 편집장인 이혜린을 비롯해 부편집장인 최서경과 노진 그리고 이주형, 문서연, 최유나 편집자와 권영라, 최중은 기자가 백두반을 방문하여 새로운 KSNEAN 멤버들을 환영하며 KSNEAN의 다양한 역할과 월간 신문 제작을 위해 팀원들이 어떻게 협력하는지에 대한 정보를 공유했다.
이혜린 편집장은 우선 WiX를 통해 발행하는 온라인 버전과 매달 출판하는 지면 신문을 소개한 후 신문에서 다루는 기사 종류, 한국어 기사 쓰기 및 번역 작업, 각 호의 1면 기사 선정 방법과 만화에 관해 설명했다. 또한 매달 새로운 로고를 선택하기 위해 이루어지는 KSNEAN 로고 컨테스트에 관해 설명하며 신입 회원들의 참여를 독려했다. 마지막으로 KSNEAN 회원으로서 지켜야 할 규칙과 요구사항, 월례 회의 및 신문 기고를 통한 봉사 시간 획득에 대해 자세히 설명했다.
백두반 학생들은 KSNEAN의 편집부원으로서의 활동에 큰 관심을 보이며 서비스 시간, 회의, 기사 쓰기 또는 번역 과정 등에 대해 많은 질문을 했다. 특히 이혜린 편집장은 “지금까지 권영라 기자가 단독으로 맡아왔던 만화에 참여하고 싶어 하는 학생들이 여럿 있었다”며, “이처럼 열정적이고 다양한 재능을 갖춘 백두반 회원들을 맞이하게 되어 기쁘고, 남은 학년 동안 함께 일하며 더욱더 다채로운 기사와 흥미로운 콘텐츠로 발전한 KSNEAN를 선보일 것이다. 앞으로도 KSNEAN에 많은 관심과 사랑 부탁드립니다.”라고 전했다.

As the spring semester of 2024 kicks off, the KSNEAN is thrilled to announce the addition of eleven passionate new members to its editorial team. Traditionally, students from the Korean School of New England joined the school newspaper after they graduated and transitioned into assistant teachers. This year, however, marks a significant milestone as students from the Baekdu class join the KSNEAN team at the start of the spring semester.
On March 2nd, a warm welcome was extended to the new KSNEAN members during the current members’ visit to the Baekdu class. The gathering included Ms. Hyun-Ah Park, the executive advisor, and Herin Lee, the editor-in-chief, as well as two co-managing editors Sally Choi and Jin Roe, along with editors Juhyeong Lee, Seoyeon Moon, Yuna Choi, and writers Youngrah Kwon and Joong-eun Choi. The meeting provided insights into the diverse roles within KSNEAN and the collaborative efforts required for producing the monthly newspaper.
Editor-in-chief Herin Lee began by introducing both the online version published through WiX and the print edition that hits stands every month. She elaborated on the types of articles covered by the newspaper, the process of writing and translating articles in Korean, and the criteria for selecting front-page features. Additionally, she discussed the KSNEAN Logo Contest, which determines the logo for each issue, encouraging active participation from the new members. Finally, she outlined the rules, requirements, monthly meetings, and volunteer hours associated with being a KSNEAN member.
The Baekdu class students expressed keen interest in their roles within KSNEAN, posing questions about service hours, meetings, article writing, and translation processes. Several students were particularly enthusiastic about contributing to the comics section, a responsibility previously handled solely by writer Youngrah Kwon. These passionate and talented new members fill us with excitement, and we look forward to working together throughout the remaining academic year.
