한국어는 한국을 이야기 할때 절대 빼놓을 수 없는 중요한 요소이다. 특히 최근에는 한류를 통해 한국어와 한국 문화에 관심을 갖는 사람이 많다. 한국어가 아름다워서 전세계 사람들의 관심을 많이 끈다. 한글(훈민정음)은 1400년대에 세종대왕이 백성들을 위해 만들었다. 이때당시에는 조선이라는 나라의 언어가 없어 중국어를 썼다. 하지만 언어가 어려워 소규모의 백성들만 배울 수 밖에 없어서 백성들 사이에 소통이 많이 어려웠다. 하지만 세종대왕은 ‘백성을 가르치는 바른소리'의 의미를 가진 훈민정음을 만들었다. 이 언어를 통해 조선의 백성들은 소통을 더 많은 사람들과 할 수 있게 되었다. 1926년 일제감정기때 한글날이 처음 재청했다. 한글날은 1945년 부터 매해 10월 9일에 기념된다.
한글은 말을 할때에 목구멍의 모양을 본따서 ㄱ, ㄴ, ㅁ, ㅅ, ㅇ 을 만들어 졌고 ㅋ ㄷ ㅌ ㅂ ㅍ ㅈ ㅊ ㅎ 은 소리의 변화에 덧붙여 선을 더해 만들었다. ㄹ 은 혀의 모양을 따서 만들었다. 그리고 모음, ㅏ ㅑ ㅓ ㅕ ㅗ ㅛ ㅜ ㅠ ㅡ ㅣ 는 하늘(천), 땅(지), 사람(인) 으로 만들어졌다. 주변의 있는 것을 사용하여 만든 철자라 백성 모두가 배우고 쓰기 쉬웠다.
한글날을 기념하여 한국학교 수업시간에도 학생들이 배우고 기념하는 시간을 가졌다. 앞으로도 한글을 널리 알릴 도록 우리가 노력해야 된다.

The Korean language is an important element that cannot be left out when talking about Korea. Recently, many people have gained an interest in the Korean language and culture through Hallyu. The language’s beauty is what attracts people from all around the world. Hangul (Hunminjeongeum) was created for the people by King Sejong in the 1400s. At that time, Joseon did not have their own language so Chinese was used. However, the language was difficult, so only a small group of people could learn it which made the communication between people very difficult. King Sejong created Hunminjeongeum with the meaning “Correct Sounds for the Instruction of the People.” This language allowed the people of Joseon to communicate with more people. In 1926, during the Japanese colonial period, Hangul Day was first reapproved. Hangul Day has been celebrated on October 9th every year since 1945.
Hangul is made of ㄱ, ㄴ, ㅁ, ㅅ, ㅇ, taking after the shape of the throat when speaking, and ㅋ,ㄷ,ㅌ,ㅂ,ㅍ,ㅈ,ㅊ, by adding lines in addition to the change in sound. ㄹ was created after the shape of the tongue. The vowels ㅏ, ㅑ, ㅓ,ㅕ,ㅗ,ㅛ,ㅜ,ㅠ,ㅡ,ㅣ are made from the Chinese characters for sky(Chun), earth(ji), and person (In). Since the language was made from what was around the people, it was easy for many to learn and write.
In commemoration of Hangul Day, students had time to learn and celebrate during class times at Korean school. We must make efforts to spread hangul widely.
