재미한국학교 뉴잉글랜드협의회(회장 남일, 이사장 오인식)주최로 3월 9일에 개최된 행사에는 뉴잉글랜드 한국학교를 포함한 10개의 소속 학교들의 교사와 관계자 등 백오십 여명이 참석한 가운데 보스턴장로교회 본당 및 친교실에서 개최됐다.
이정설 교육간사의 사회로 진행된 연수회에서 남일 회장과 오인식 이사장은 협의회 행사 중에 교사의 수고하심과 이번 행사를 위해 땀을 많이 흘려주신 관계자 및 임원 여러분께 감사드린다고 환영사를 대신했다.
김재휘 총영사는 “각 지역에 있는 한국학교는 항상 우리 동포사회에서 언제나 구심점으로서 핵심적인 역할을 해왔고 자녀들이 한민족으로서의 정체성을 배우는 발견의 장소이자 친구들과 교분을 쌓는 교환의 장소라고 생각한다.”며 최대의 지원을 약속했다.
보스턴장로교회 장성철 목사는 “한국어 교육도 이제는 획일성으로 일반화된 교육보다는 전문성을 가진 다양한 교육현장으로의 변화가 필요하다고 생각하다”고 말하며 “한글이 세계적인 언어로 보다 확장되고 퍼져나갈 수 있도록 해달라”고 당부했다.
이어 우수교사 표창 및 장기근속상 표창이 이어졌다. 이현경 교장(누리)이 25주년, 이현석 교사(뉴잉글랜드)가 15주년 장기근속상을 수상했으며 10주년 및 5주년 근속상 수상이 이어졌다. 보스톤중앙교회한국학교에는 개교 20주년 이상 학교 감사패가 수여됐고, 이현경 교장에게는 직지상이 수여됐다. 또한, 뉴잉글랜드지역 교사 연수회 및 사은회에서 30년의 세월 동안 교사로 재직한 남일 교장(뉴잉글랜드), 명정호 교사(북부보스톤), 주민정 교사(뉴잉글랜드) 3명이 장기근속상을 수상했다. 이어 보스톤코리아 및 졸업생 오인희씨가 협의회에 후원금을 전달했다.
연수회 첫 번째 강연에서 독립기념관의 노지은 학예 연구사는 ‘보물이 된 대한민국의 상징, 태극기’를 내용으로 강연했으며 명지대 김경호 교수는 ‘교사를 위한 이미지 코칭-두근두근 설레이는 교실을 여는 교사’가 되는 법에 대해 강의했다.
2부 순서를 마치며 선생님의 노고에 감사하는 마음으로 보스턴장로교회의 청소년 오케스트라(Youth Orchestra) 단원들이 임근영 집사의 지도로 은혜롭고 멋진 연주를 선사하여 참가자들의 큰 박수갈채를 받았다.
이날 마지막 순서인 교사 사은회는 박현아 총무와 김성희, 손연주 간사의 진행으로 이어졌다. 알록 달록한 풍선으로 꾸며진 친교실에서 교사연수회에 참석한 모든 교사 및 가족이 모여 제육볶음, 탕수육, 겉절이 등 군침도는 한식을 함께 즐겨 먹었다. 저녁 식사 후에 짧을 시상식과 함께 교사대항 퀴즈 및 민속놀이 시간이 시작되었다. 어른, 아이 모두 적극적으로 제기차기와 공기놀이에 도전하여 풍부하게 준비되어있는 상품을 타갔다.
마지막 순서로 교사 배우자에게 사랑을 담아 쓴 따뜻한 편지를 나누며 2024년도 우수배우자상 표창 순서를 가졌고 모두가 기다리던 경품시간을 가진후에 사은회를 마쳤다.

At the New England region teacher training and appreciation party three teachers who have served as teachers for 30 years, principal Nam Il(New England), teacher Myeong Jeong-ho(Northern Boston), and teacher Joo Min-jeong(New England) received long-term service awards.
At an event held at Boston Presbyterian Church on March 9th, hosted by the New England Council of Korean American Schools (Chairman Nam Il, Board Chairman Oh In-sik), Nuri Korean School, New England Korean School, Maine Korean School, Boston Presbyterian Church Korean School, Boston Jung-ang Presbyterian Church Korean School, Boston Korean School, Boston Catholic Korean School, Amherst Korean School, Worcester Korean School, Puleumoe Culture Korean School etc every 10 member schools participated by approximately 150 people including teachers and officials, it was held grandly in the main hall and fellowship hall of Boston Presbyterian Church.
At the training session hosted by Education Secretary Lee Jeong-seol, Chairman Nam Il and Chairman Oh In-sik thanked the teachers for their hard work during the conference event and thanked the Boston Presbyterian Church officials and executives for their hard work in preparing this event, which was the most grandiose event. Instead of giving a welcome speech, he said, “Thank you.”
Consul General Kim Jae-hwi said, “Korean schools in each region gave always played a important role as a focal point in our Korean community and are simply a learning place where children learn about Korean culture, history, and Hangul, which has become an international language used by more than 100 million people around the world. “Of course, I think it is a place of discovery to learn about the identity of the Korean people and a place of exchange to build friendships with friends,” he said, promising maximum support.
Pastor Jang Sung-chul from Boston Presbyterian Church said “I believe that Korean language education also needs to change to a diverse education field with specialization rather than a generalized education with uniformity. The language should have inclusiveness and expandability, but on the contrary, it is easy to see it shrinking due to the tendency to abbreviate. “ He said, “Please allow Hangul to expand and spread as a global language.”
This was followed by commendations for excellent teachers and long-term service awards. Principal Lee Hyun-Kyung (Nuri) received the 25th anniversary, and teacher Lee Hyun-Seok (New England) received the 15th anniversary long-term service award, followed by the 10th and 5th anniversary service awards.
