제가 좋아하는 한국식 프라이드 치킨이 너무 먹고 싶어 Waltham Moody Street에 있는 본촌 치킨을 다녀 왔습니다. COVID-19 때문에 아직 식당 안에서 식사가 허용이 되지 않아 아쉽지만 전화로 주문하고 테이크 아웃 해와서 집에서 먹었습니다. 식당은 Waltham 센터에 위치해 있어 무료로 주차할 수 있는 곳을 찾기가 힘들어 식당에서 조금 떨어진 공용 주차장을 이용해야 했습니다. 식당에 들어가니 마스크를 썼는데도 군침이 돌게할 정도의 맛있는 한국 치킨냄새를 맡을 수 있었습니다. 음식을 기다리는 사람들이 많이 있었는데 대부분 동양 사람들이 아니어서 좀 의외라고 생각이 들었습니다.
테이크아웃해서 집에 도착하는데 20분 정도의 시간이 소요되어 치킨이 조금 식었지만 눅눅해 지지 않았고 식당에서 바로 먹었을 때와 차이가 거의 없을 것 같을 정도로 상태는 양호했습니다. 매운맛 간장/마늘맛 반반씩 주문했는데 매운맛 치킨의 경우 제 생각보다 더 매웠습니다. 한국 음식의 매운맛에 익숙한 제가 먹어도 매울 정도면 매운 한국 음식을 접해 보지 못한 외국인의 경우 매우 매울거 같다는 생각이 좀 들었습니다. 제 입맛에는 간장 마늘 소스로 맛을 낸 간장맛 치킨이 더 맛이 있었습니다. 본촌 치킨이 KFC나 파파이스 같은 미국 치킨과 좀 차별이 되는 점은 오랜 시간이 지나도 바삭 바삭 하고 눅눅해지지 않도록 여러 번 튀기고 두껍게 양념 옷을 입혔다는 점입니다. 거기에 맛있는 한국식 매운 양념과 간장마늘 소스가 두껍게 입혀져 정말 맛있고 많이 먹어도 질리지 않는 맛이 나는 거 같습니다. 그리고 치킨과 함께 먹으면 더욱 맛있게 만들어 주는 치킨무도 정말 맛이 있었습니다. 치킨무는 치킨을 주문하면 무료로 제공이 되며, 식초와 설탕에 절여서 만들어진 아삭하고 시원한 치킨무는 특히 매운맛 치킨과 궁합이 잘 맞아서 매운맛을 더 즐길 수 있도록 해 줍니다. 간장마늘맛 치킨은 특히 어린 아이들이 좋아할 것 같은 맛이어서 어린 자녀가 있는 가족은 간장마늘맛 치킨을 주문해서 드셔 보시길 권장해 드립니다. 메뉴판을 보니 치킨 말고도 다른 한식도 있었는데 다음에는 떡볶이나 불닭 같은 매운 한국음식을 한번 시도해 볼 예정입니다.

I really wanted to eat the Korean fried chicken that I like, so I went to the Bonchon Chicken on Waltham Moody Street. Unfortunately, dine-ins aren’t allowed in the restaurant yet because of COVID-19, but I ordered takeout over the phone and ate it at home. The restaurant is located at Waltham Center, so it was difficult to find a place to park for free, so I had to use a public parking lot a little far from the restaurant. When I entered the restaurant, I could smell the delicious Korean chicken that made my mouth water even though I wore a mask. There were a lot of people waiting for food, but most of them weren’t Asian, so I thought it was a bit surprising.
It took about 20 minutes to get home, so the chicken cooled down a little, but it didn't get soggy. It was in good condition, enough for me to think that there would be almost no difference from eating it right away at the restaurant. I ordered a half and half with the spicy flavor and the soy sauce garlic flavor, but the spicy chicken was spicier than I thought. I think it would be very spicy for foreigners who have never experienced spicy Korean food if it was spicy for me since I’m used to the spicy taste of Korean food. For me, I thought that the soy sauce garlic-flavored chicken tasted better. The difference between Bonchon chicken and American chicken such as KFC and Popeyes is that Bonchon chicken has been fried several times and thickly seasoned so that it remains crispy after a long time. It is tasty because it is coated with delicious Korean spicy seasoning and soy sauce garlic sauce; even if you eat a lot, you can't get enough of it. And the pickled radish that makes the chicken taste even better. The pickled radish is provided free of charge if you order chicken. The crunchy and refreshing pickled radish made with vinegar and sugar goes especially well with spicy chicken so that you can enjoy the spicy taste more. I think that young children will especially like the soy sauce garlic-flavored chicken, so I recommend that families with young children try that out. When I look at the menu, there are other Korean foods besides chicken, so I am planning to try spicy Korean foods such as tteokbokki and buldak next time.
